Project Overview

Job creation, income growth, cross-border relations, the digitalisation of the economy and investment in youth are some key trends and challenges observed in Western Balkans, Southern Neighbourhood and Eastern Neighbourhood regions.

The European Union (EU) via EIB has historically fostered the development of the financial and enterprise sectors in these regions through funding and technical assistance (TA).

In this context, the EIB intends to provide advisory services to Partner Financial Institutions (PFIs) in the areas of small and medium-sized enterprises (SME) and MidCap finance across these three regions.

Frankfurt School leads a consortium that has been selected to implement, through specific call-offs, support packages that assist EIB’s SME and MidCap investments and specialised services for SMEs and MidCaps to access financial services.

The main Project activities will focus on the following:

  • TA to improve the operational mechanisms and methodologies of PFIs to serve the SMEs and MidCaps target groups effectively and efficiently;
  • Support to enhance the strategies of PFIs to increase the supply of financial services to rural SME communities;
  • Development of mechanisms that foster innovation and youth employment; and,
  • Consultancy in areas that help PFIs increase their services that cater to women’s participation in business and increase socio-economic impact through the SME and MidCap activities.
