The China Desk builds on the successful results of more than two decades of services provided by Frankfurt School to Chinese institutions. It responds to the increasing need of advisory services and executive education with the aim of (i) improving the development of inclusive finance and financial markets in general; (ii) promoting sustainable economic development; and, (iii) enhancing the international management competency of Chinese senior and mid-level executives from different industries and high-potential young talents.

The IAS - China Desk is committed to:

  • Promoting sustainable economic development by providing capacity building and business development services to small and middle-sized enterprises (SMEs), SME ecosystem focused policy consultancy and technical assistance to local governments, sharing international best practices with local stakeholders in China; and,
  • Enhancing the international management competency of Chinese senior and mid-level executives from different industries and high-potential young talents by providing customised training and capacity building programmes.

Since 1998, Frankfurt School’s International Advisory Services has successfully implemented more than 30 large-scale consulting and training projects covering Microfinance, SME Finance, Agricultural Finance, Green Finance and other relevant Development Finance sub-areas for numerous state-owned, joint-stock and city commercial banks in China.

With the goal of achieving excellence in consultancy and advisory for Chinese organisations, Frankfurt School has been strengthening its cooperation with numerous first-class scientific research and educational institutions in China, including the Institute of Agricultural Economics and Development of Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS), Rural Development Institute, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS), Agricultural University of China, University of International Business and Economics, China Academy of Financial Inclusion of Renmin University and Shanghai University of Finance and Economics amongst others.

Our projects in China include both directly acquired commercial consultancy services, as well as capacity building services funded by international financial institutions and other donors. For instance, Frankfurt School has been serving Zhejiang Tailong Commercial Bank (one of the best examples for successful SME banking in China) since 2011 focusing on standardisation of the bank’s operations and SME lending business.

As part of another flagship project, which began in late 2019 - Frankfurt School has been providing SME Business Development Services to support the revitalisation and diversification of cities in the Heilongjiang Province in China in the framework of the 5-year Heilongjiang Green Urban and Economic Revitalization Programme funded by Asian Development Bank (ADB).

International Competence Enhancement Programme (ICEP)

The demand for young professionals and talents in Development Finance is increasing in both the private and public sectors. In order to provide senior university students with an opportunity to boost their international careers abroad, Frankfurt School regularly offers customised International Competence Enhancement Programme (ICEP) to students from the renowned 1st tier universities in China.

The ICEP is a non-degree programme designed for emerging young professionals and graduates who are passionate about finance/business management and the role finance/business management plays as a catalyst for economic development and growth in emerging economies worldwide.

The ICEP works closely with financial sectors, industrial partners and international organizations and aims to guide participants to excel as future managers in a variety of industries. By combining project internship and professional courses, the ICEP enables participants to deepen their professional understanding through the study of various training modules and project interns and to expand their international vision through industrial visits and social activities. The two-week ICEP is currently offered in three optional modes, i.e. 100% on-site (in Germany), 100% on-line, or 50% on- and offline. The on-site ICEP normally takes place during winter and summer breaks.
