Inclusive financial services providers are undergoing rapid change. Many face increasing competition, tougher regulation or are branching out to embrace new market segments. The Inclusive Finance Summer Academy seeks to equip participants with deep technical know-how across six major themes: Risk Management, Housing Finance, Digital Finance, SME Banking, Rural Finance and Human Resources. You will visit major German institutions related to your elective and develop a better understanding of current trends in emerging markets and developing economies.
Our mission at Frankfurt School – International Advisory Services has always been closely aligned with the UN economic development mandate. The Summer Academy is a unique practitioner platform where you can develop the leadership skills necessary to achieve the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Participants will choose between the 6 concentration tracks above and participate in broader exposure sessions every day. There are also crosscutting networking and teambuilding activities as well as field visits related to the five specialized tracks. In 2021, the CSEF Summer Academy will run in parallel to the other 6 tracks. Learn more about the CSEF summer academy.
Our Summer Academy is designed to provide tangible take-home value: what you learn with us in Frankfurt, you can apply straight away in your own organization. More than 1,000 participants over 20 years can’t be wrong – our trainings are cutting edge, delivered by leading experts in their field. Yet, most important for the great success of our Summer Academies is the profile of the participants. You bring the regional expertise, diversity of backgrounds and the unique practitioner’s perspective. Learning from each other is an integral part of our training philosophy. This is your opportunity to stretch your network all around the globe.

Participants can select the track most applicable to them, their needs and career goals. We offer several specialisations:
Risk Management Track
It’s getting competitive out there in MSME financial services. Risk Management is the essential survival skill for inclusive finance leaders. The specialist track focusses on what every manager needs to know about risk management: how to address risk at the governance level, how to organize the identification, measurement and mitigation of exposures in a modern three-lines-of-defense approach.
Housing Finance Track
Offering housing finance in developing or emerging countries is a challenge. Affordability, fraud, legal problems, or a lack of long-term financing are persistent problems. In this course we will teach strategies and skills for implementing or enhancing housing finance operations both in your institution and other difficult environments.
Human Resources (HR) Track
MFIs that grow fast or operate in a competitive environment often find it difficult to recruit the right people, get consistently high employee performance, retain good employees, and fill management vacancies. In this Track we will provide solutions to these challenges and practice hands-on some of the key HR skills for MFI managers on all levels.
SME Finance Track
The SME banking track is intended for professionals from financial institutions interested in developing a strong SME banking business. The focus will be on cash flow lending, credit risk assessment, financial analysis, relationship management and SME products and services. The importance of recent trends will be discussed including Women in business, Supply chain finance and significant changes in SME service delivery requirements.
Agricultural Finance Track
The Agricultural Finance course objective is to build the capacity of financial institutions to lend to agribusiness enterprises and expand their agribusiness loan portfolios. The course covers three main topics: agribusiness and agri-sector fundamentals, agribusiness credit analysis and agricultural value chain finance.
Digital Finance Track
Digital finance offers a transformational solution for financial inclusion. Powered by the mobile phone, new data and technological innovations, it has become affordable and convenient for unbanked customers to access and use formal banking services. While new technological developments and financial players bring tremendous opportunities, the emerging landscape is also becoming more complex and is putting increasing pressure on traditional providers to go digital.
