Sustainable Agriculture Finance Track

30 June - 4 July 2025

Overview

Global food demand is estimated to increase by 70% by 2050, requiring at least USD 80 billion in annual investments in food value chains, according to the World Bank. Agriculture is not only vital for food security but also plays a crucial role in employment, inclusive economic growth and environmental sustainability. Despite this immense relevance farming remains vastly under-served by financial institutions worldwide.

In the Sustainable Agriculture Finance Track, we will look at both sides of the finance equation: demand and supply. What do farmers and agribusinesses need in terms of financial services, and what can financial institutions offer?

The focus will be on the latest trends and innovations in financing sustainable agriculture, exploring the perspectives of both smallholder farmers in low-income countries and larger agriculture operations in both high- and low-income nations.

Through practical examples, we will explore how financial institutions can enhance farm productivity, increase farmer incomes, improve labour conditions, manage farm and supply chain risks, and strengthen food security and safety. Additionally, we will address key sustainability challenges, including climate change adaptation, reducing greenhouse gas emissions and other pollutants, and preserving biodiversity.

The sessions will cover a range of financial services, including credit, insurance, value chain finance, bank finance, leasing solutions, and sustainable agriculture value chain finance. We will also explore funding sources such as carbon credits. A dedicated session on agricultural insurance will highlight risk mitigation strategies, and an excursion will offer participants the opportunity to explore sustainable agriculture in practice.
