Frankfurt am Main, 14.02.2019 12:00:00

For Frankfurt School students Christian Inci, Jonathan Attwood, Wesley Armstrong, Jakob Jonas and Tim Niklas Brandt February 5, 2019, was an unusual day. The five Master of Finance students particpated in the national finals of the CFA Institute Research Challenge. Only three of twelve German universities had qualified for the German finals. The students conducted an extensive company analysis of Fresenius Medical Care AG & Co.KGaA. They submitted a written report with a sell, buy or hold recommendation for the company’s stock. In the final, they had the chance to present their research results to a jury of four esteemed CFA charter holders.

Frankfurt School Student Christian Inci remembers:

“Of course we had a lot of sleepless nights in the library and our financial laboratory, midnight snacks from the gas station and skype sessions as all of our team members were distributed across the whole world. One of the biggest highlights for all of us was the invitation to the German final. This was reflected in the motivation of all the team members, who worked almost 24/7 for two weeks on the presentation, even during semester break.”

This year’s competition was the fourth consecutive year, in which a team from FS made it to the Local Final of the CFA Institute Research Challenge. More than 5,000 students from 1,000 universities worldwide participate in the challenge of the CFA institute, a non profit for investment managers and financial analysts, located in Charlottesville, Virginia. The jurors narrowly decided against the Frankfurt School team, and in favour of the representatives of RWTH Aachen. The feedback for the presentation of  the five Frankfurt School students was very positive, says Ellen Padilla, Study Advisor and Project Coordinator at Frankfurt School:

“We are very proud of our students and their University Mentor Professor Dr Jing Zeng on their success in making it to this round and are excited to see what the next FS team will accomplish in the CFA Institute Research Challenge 2019/2020.”

Christian Inci will not forget the Research Challenge any time soon:

“I can recommend this competition to everybody, who brings inquisitiveness, desire and willingness to walk the famous “extra mile” and wants to experience what it means to work in the Investment Banking environment. In addition to reading thousands of pages of annual reports, researching for market studies, conducting various analyses and performing valuations you will require a wide universe of soft skills, especially managing a project and dealing with different personalities in a team.”
